After years of being quite content to stay within Sydney walls, happy in my role as a 'typical home body' travelling between work, family, study, church and social committments all inside Australia...... early last year I was finally bitten by the travel bug! My mind constantly swirls theses day with plans of trecking here and there, to and fro across the continents....hehehe... but as they say "money talks"..... well....let's just take it in little steps.....
Last year in April i took off to Fiji with some mates for a ten day getaway! It was fantastic! It also fuelled the flames and the desire to have more! More trips, More time away, more destinations....just more more more!!! Now it may take me more than 80 days, i guess ........ it won't happen overnight, but it will happen?!
This week am off to Fiji again (different set of mates this time).... even though its a repeat location....gee its good to be getting out of Sydney for a while....putting some distance between me and work and family and 'reality'........

Music as "Food for the Soul"! (Part 2)
As i stated in my first blog on this topic, after the inspiring experience that was my first guitar lesson, i went home with a determination and motivation (all the átions' if you will......) to continue practicing the basic chords that i had learnt.
Let me put this into more of a situational context for you.......... I am NOT nor have i ever really been very musically talented in any way.... not in the least! Listening to music (though my taste in music is fairly eclectic....) is pretty much the extent of my experience to date..... well except for a few organ lessons when i was about 6 or 7...but believe you me....there was nothing retained from that episode..ha! Thus, i cannot read music, guitar tableture or chords... *standing at the bottom of a hill..looking up*!
So picure if you will... me at home trying to practice chords on a guitar that is not tuned because i don't know how to tune it, nor have i invested in that tool so handy to all new guitarists.... known as "a tuner". However, little trivial details like that cannot keep down the optimistic dreamer such as myself...... so for two evenings now i have been practicing how to play the right notes, how to strum without a pick and finger picking and making what i thought was a halfway decent attempt at tuning my acoustic by ear.....ha!
Last night i snapped the string (the B string to be exact as my teacher informs me..)! There will be a slight intermission here while we wait for the necessary funds to buy new string, AND A TUNER!
Meanwhile......my household, the surrounding neighbours and every dog withing a 5mile radius....... is thanking their lucky stars.
Well........ i'm no Gypsy King!

Music Thread # 1
From time to time i find a song that i really really dig! You know...the ones that are on repeat from sunrise to sunset, you know the words by heart, you've seen the music videos.....etc etc...
These become part of what i think of as the soundtrack for my life..... so....i occassionally i will post lyrics for music that i love....when i can get my act together i am hoping to put in a music player.... but i'm not very "net wise" or "blog wise" just yet so it will have to wait.
So here's the first one.......
PS. The lyrics are in Japanese (no, i'm not Japanese... which will also explain if there are errors in the lyrics) but i understand what they mean ie. i've read the translation. I don't really related to the song's meaning, but i love the tune.

Music as "Food for the Soul"!
Yaaaayyyyyyy!
Had my very first guitar lesson today "woohoo".....my head is still swimming with chords and tableture, E minor, A Major etc etc, my fingers sting a little too BUT my heart is soaring! I loved it! Incidentally, we had the lesson in one of our meeting rooms at work and when we got in the lifts afterwards, we just happen to get in the lift that our company CEO was standing in. He saw the guitar which ofcourse prompted questions, comments, conversation and much laughter.....but the thing that i found most interesting.......his take on music.......quote "music is food for the soul" unquote........ hmmm..........am i out of touch that i've never heard that phrase before? I rethink my first guitar lesson experience and it occurs to me that the phrase rings true!
I have an acoustic guitar at home. Its been in my possession for at least a year now...untouched ofcourse. Acutally, its a keepsake. One of my cousins passed away two years ago......very musically talented and a wonderful person overall.....i will always count him as "one of the good guys".....the guitar is his that he left in my possession....for which i feel very blessed! This is what prompted my desire to learn to play. Can't wait to get home and practice!

My first B.L.O.G!!!!!!
WOW! Does this mean i am now an official "blogger"? Have i really joined the community of neitzens that is the current trend of these times?......hmmmm...... i am fairly impressed with myself at the moment........*pat on the back*......hehehe......! Ok, so each year, diary after diary after journal after diary etc etc etc....... i attempt to put my thoughts to paper, as a way to try an organise a chaotic and conflicted mind (and no i don't mean conflicted in a mentally twisted pyscho Dexter sort of way.....would i blog about that?!).....without much success or longevity! Its sad really! SO....this year i thought i would try something different......"Blogging"!
Hoi..............wish me luck!
BTW: i really don't consider myself a blogger just yet....i've been surfing the blog scenes out there and there are some very talented people with interesting, thought provoking things to say/suggest/pose to us.......and ofcourse, in comparison...this blog is sadly lacking! but hey, its my first blog......give it time...... *mwah*
